Greek hospital and residential areas evacuated due to another fire

Athens, Jul 9 (Prensa Latina) Another fire reported today in Greece, forced authorities to evacuate a children's hospital and several residential areas of Patras, the third most densely populated city in this country.

The fire started in a green area and was fanned by strong winds, declared authorities of that locality, west of this capital.

Several regions of the country are on alert due to a high risk of fires caused by a heat wave.

A total of 80 firefighters, 25 vehicles and 10 air tankers were deployed on the scene, while several residents received a message urging them to evacuate their homes and go to the center.

Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias said Greece is currently experiencing its most difficult season in 20 years, having already suffered devastating fires in the summer of 2023.

Temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius are expected on Wednesday, with higher peaks in several regions.
