Participants gave green light to an agreement on technical and financial cooperation between MERCOSUR and the Financial Fund for the Development of the La Plata Basin, and supported a consensus related to the promotion and collaboration of strategies for sustainable production and consumption, in addition to adopting a regional policy to improve efficiency in the use of natural resources and production processes in order to reduce risks to human health and the environment.
Another agreement was signed on MERCOSUR’s cinematographic and audiovisual co-production to strengthen the industry in the region and promote the creation of works that reflect the identity and cultural diversity of the member countries.
Sunday’s meetings served as a preamble to the Summit of Heads of State and Associated States, which will close on Monday with the transfer of the temporary presidency of the bloc from Paraguay to Uruguay.
Throughout this week, Paraguay hosted varios meetings as part of its farewell to the mandate. In that context, MERCOSUR and the United Arab Emirates made significant progress in the negotiations on the eventual signing of an agreement that should expand trade in both directions.
The summit of dignitaries will highlight the presence of Bolivia, after its full incorporation was approved last Thursday, a step considered by the Paraguayan Government the beginning of new perspectives and opportunities for trade, investment, economic growth and prosperity in the region.
