German exports fall in May

Berlin, Jul 8 (Prensa Latina) The Federal Statistical Office (DESTATIS) informed on Monday that exports of German companies fell by 3.6 percent in May compared to the same month of 2023.

Such decrease amounted to 131.6 billion euros, the entity informed.

DESTATIS added that imports decreased by 6.6 percent in May to reach 106.7 billion euros.

Germany’s foreign trade showed a surplus of 24.9 billion euros, following 22.2 billion euros in April.

Last year, the German export industry suffered the effects of world trade weakness and the consequences of geopolitical crises.

Dirk Jandura, president of the Federation of German Wholesale, Foreign Trade, and Services (BGA), described the decline as dramatic.
