A statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry highlighted a phone conversation about the issue between Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. Abdelatty urged the European bloc to maintain its support for the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) to enable it to fulfill its responsibilities on the occupied territories.
The PNA is under attack by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his more radical partners in the ruling coalition.
The head of Egyptian diplomacy also underscored Cairo’s coordination with the EU to support stability and defuse the severe crises in the Middle East.
Both parties agreed to raise bilateral relations to a strategic partnership level.
