Hasina’s presence in China is expected to contribute to raise bilateral relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership after the signing of several memorandums of understanding and the announcement of new joint projects, according to the Government of Bangladesh.
Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud explained that agreements are expected to be signed in the economic and banking sectors, trade and investment, digital economy, infrastructure development and assistance in disaster management.
At the same time, deals might be closed on the export of agricultural products from Bangladesh and exchange between the two people.
The prime minister will meet with President Xi Jinping and hold a delegation-level meeting with her counterpart, Li Qiang.
She will also hold talks with the president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Jin Liqun, and will participate in a meeting on trade, business and investment opportunities between Bangladesh and China.
Mahmud pointed out that Bangladesh views the prime minister’s visit as a fundamental step to accelerate the country’s development. She noted that China is Bangladesh’s main development partner, and stressed that bilateral cooperation is reflected in national emblematic works such as the Bangabandhu Tunnel and the Bangabandhu Convention Center.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, in turn, said that Hasina’s visit to China will outline a new plan for practical cooperation in various fields and provide an opportunity for positions to be coordinated on regional and international affairs.
