Gebeyehu reported during the meeting with Borrell and the delegation accompanying him that currently more than 10 million people are displaced in Khartoum due to the ongoing conflict since April 2023.

“Every day, many more are pushed to the brink. The humanitarian crisis in Sudan demands our concerted efforts,” he wrote on his X social media account.

He thanked the European representative and his team for the strong support that led to the strengthening of cooperation between the African regional entity and the EU in areas of mutual interest.

This commitment underscores our shared obligation to regional stability and the well-being of those in crisis, the publication concluded.

The clashes in Sudan broke out on April 15 of last year due to contradictions in the middle of a process of integration of the RFS (Rapid Support Forces) led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, vice president of the Sovereign Transitional Council (CST) into the Forces. Armed; and the head of the Army and president of the CST, Abdel Fattah al Burhan.

Both with the rank of general, they have disputed control of the country after the 2019 overthrow of the president, Omar al Bashir.
