“Cuba congratulates the people and government of Cape Verde, on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of its Independence,” says the text published on X (formerly Twitter) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“We ratify our willingness to continue strengthening the ties of friendship between both nations,” he adds.

Cape Verde proclaimed its independence from Portugal on July 5, 1975, after a strong emancipation movement that pitted the natives against the metropolis and the so-called Carnation Revolution in the European nation.
