Founded in 1973 to replace the Caribbean Free Trade Association that was instituted in 1965, CARICOM is an organization to strengthen relations in the Caribbean, with headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana. It is made up of 15 members, most of them English-speaking countries, while Aruba, Colombia, Curaçao, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Sint Maarten and Venezuela participate in the dynamics of the group as observers.
Cuba and CARICOM maintain a relationship of solidarity and collaboration, especially in the development of human capacities, the provision of medical services and cooperation in disaster situations.
