During his speech, he praised Kazakhstan’s efforts to improve the operational mechanisms of the SCO and deepen collaboration in various fields during its rotating chairmanship.
He also welcomed Belarus as a full member of the organization.
Xi stressed that the key to resisting international changes lies in continued adherence to the tradition of unity, the focus on equality and mutual benefit, the pursuit of justice and fairness, and an inclusive and learning spirit.
“We must uphold our initial commitment, continue to fly the flag of the ‘Spirit of Shanghai,’ support each other, and ensure the direction of the SCO’s development,” he said.
The Chinese president emphasized that, in the face of current challenges, it is crucial to respect the security concerns of all countries, resolve disputes peacefully, and oppose unilateral sanctions and interference in internal affairs.
Xi praised the central role of the UN in coordinating and promoting the construction of a more representative, democratic and just multipolar world system and inclusive economic globalization.
The Summit agreed to improve the SCO mechanism to address security threats, combat the ‘three forces’ (terrorism, separatism and extremism), drug trafficking and transnational organized crime.
They also called for increased international efforts for peace and development in Afghanistan, as well as a just solution to the Palestinian question based on the ‘two-state solution’.
Those present agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, transport, energy, finance, agriculture, digital economy and technological innovation.
They also stressed the importance of deepening exchanges in education, culture, tourism and youth.
The meeting concluded with the signing of the ‘Astana Declaration of the SCO Council of Heads of State’, the adoption of initiatives to promote global justice and development, and a series of resolutions on cooperation in energy, investment and information security.
It was also officially announced that China assumes the rotating chairmanship of the SCO for the period 2024-2025.
Xi Jinping reiterated China’s commitment to the principles of the organization and its readiness to lead this mechanism into an era of shared prosperity and development.
