Cuba guarantees workers’ safety in Caribbean due to Hurricane Beryl

Havana, Jul 3 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Public Health Ministry (MINSAP) authorities have taken measures to guarantee the safety of collaborators in the Caribbean countries affected by Hurricane Beryl, where the meteorological event is expected to hit on Wednesday.

According to statements broadcast on national television by Dr. Michel Cabrera, director of the Central Unit for Medical Cooperation (UCCM), the MINSAP has been in constant contact with the Cuban medical brigades that are working in the Caribbean islands of Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and St. Lucia.

In anticipation of possible damage in those countries, the medical personnel has been moved to the safest houses, with sufficient water and food, their means and personal effects have been secured, and there are conditions for a prolonged stay in those places, Cabrera said.

The doctor specified that after the passage of the hurricane, they have established communication with the Cuban professionals in Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, who are safe and in good health.

He pointed out that in many cases, the Cuban doctors and nurses who are there are already providing services to the victims.

President Miguel Diaz-Canel assured on Tuesday that the Caribbean nations hit by the powerful Hurricane Beryl could count on Cuba’s solidarity for whatever they need.
