Winds from Hurricane Beryl are felt in Puerto Rico

San Juan, Jul 2 (Prensa Latina) Heavy rainfall is being felt today from the south of Puerto Rico as Hurricane Beryl, category 5, moves through the center of the Caribbean Sea.

The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) in Puerto Rico issued a bulletin to alert residents of several municipalities, including up to the northern and central area of the island about possible wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour.

At the same time, on the southern coast of this Caribbean island, dangerous waves are expected, which will diminish in the afternoon, so the NWS warned about the dangers that threaten citizens.

Some fishermen’s boats have been hit by the waves, causing individual damages amounting to about 30 000 dollars.

The risk of dangerous currents will remain in effect until at least tomorrow, Wednesday, while coastal flooding is expected in the towns of Patillas, Guayanilla, Ponce, Guayama, Salinas, Santa Isabel, Juana Diaz and Arroyo.

Hurricane Beryl’s swells will deteriorate coastal conditions, increasing the risk of sea currents in southern and eastern Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
