Panama and Dominican Republic agree to promote tourism

Panama City, Jul 1 (Prensa Latina) Panama's president-elect, Jose Rul Mulino, and his Dominican counterpart, Luis Abinader, agreed today to promote tourism between the two nations.

In the first of their bilateral meetings at the capital’s Sheraton Hotel with the visiting heads of state and government who will attend the inauguration ceremony, Mulino stressed that the parties also agreed to strengthen ties of friendship.

We have the spirit of being able to bring relations with the Dominican Republic closer, from merengue to politics’, he remarked.

He also underlined the interest in getting all the support of Santo Domingo with the objective of competing in the development of the leisure industry.

Panama has everything to develop tourism but we had 10 years of stagnation, and we need to create jobs, increase hotel capacity, he added.

Among the advanced strategies, Mulino and Abinader agreed to promote international conventions, to which the Dominican leader indicated his willingness to provide advice to Panama.

During the day Mulino will also meet with the King of Spain, Felipe VI, the Colombian President, Gustavo Petro, and the US Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, who are attending the transfer of presidential office at the Atlapa Convention Center together with other presidents, foreign ministers and representatives of over twenty nations.
