According to the final results of Sunday’s elections, the nationalist force led by Marine Le Pen obtained the support of more than 10.6 million voters in the parliamentary elections with the highest participation at the polls in this century, with 66.7 percent of 49.3 million registered voters. The RN victory came with the support of a part of the conservatives, led by the president of the Repulbicans, Éric Ciotti, who defied party members by joining the extreme right wing.
However, the elections did not define the future balance of forces in the National Assembly, which will be decided next Sunday in the second round.
After the victory, Le Pen reiterated her goal of achieving an absolute majority at the Assembly (at least 289 of its 577 deputies).
