Bolivian official criticizes “self-coup” narrative

La Paz, Jul 1 (Prensa Latina) The head of the Movement to Socialism (MAS) party, Jerges Mercado, refuted the narrative of a "self-coup" in Bolivia as promoted by "fascist" sectors and a part of a left wing that he called "radicals."

“I regret that the most fascist and racial groups in Bolivia want to minimize this fact and say that it was a self-coup,” noted the legislator, who criticized the fact that this segment expressed itself on this issue in the same vein as the traditional right win.

The ultraliberal government of Argentine President Javier Milei issued a statement joining the “self-coup” narrative and claiming that socialist processes lead to dictatorships. Milei also described prominent figures from the November 2019 coup d’état such as Jeanine Añez (2019-2020) as “political prisoners.”

In reference to the situation that Bolivia is currently going through, Minister of the Presidency María Nela Prada pointed out, “We should all close ranks against the ideological emptying of the failed coup d’état of June 26.”
