Hundreds of users commented on social media that they perceived the quake at 00:30 hours, local time, as powerful and long.
Quito Mayor Pabel Muñoz noted that there are no reports of new developments or emergency calls.
He urged citizens to remain calm and be prepared with the protocols for these events.
Ecuador is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area prone to this phenomenon due to the collision of plates that make up the Earth’s crust.
