China on red alert for possible landslides due to heavy rains

Beijing, Jun 30 (Prensa Latina) China renewed on Sunday the red alert for possible mountain torrents, while heavy rains and floods continue in several domestic areas.

Meteorological and water resources authorities warned of likely disasters in parts of Hunan, Guizhou and Guangxi.

The statement urged local authorities to strengthen real-time monitoring and flood warning procedures, prepare for possible evacuation and take precautionary measures to minimize risks.

In a separate update, the National Meteorological Center issued on Sunday an orange storm warning.

Parts of Jiangsu, Anhui, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou and Guangxi are expecting gale force winds and some regions are likely to experience rainfall of up to 260 millimeters in 24 hours.

China has a four-level color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

The Government recently allocated 496 million yuan (US$69.59 million) from its natural disaster relief fund.

According to the ministries of Finance and Emergency Management, the amount will support search and rescue operations, evacuation of people, detection of secondary disasters and repair of damaged houses.
