Washington, Jun 30 (Prensa Latina) Hurricane Beryl reached category 3 on the Saffir Simpson scale, and forecasts assure that it could reach 4 on Monday morning, becoming an extremely dangerous meteorological phenomenon.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that Beryl is rapidly intensifying so it must rise to Category 4 when it reaches the Windward Islands tomorrow, reinforcing its warning that the hurricane is potentially deadly.

“Beryl is now a very dangerous Category 3. Potentially deadly winds and storm surge are expected in the Windward Islands beginning on early Monday,” the National Hurricane Center warned.

On Sunday morning, the eye of the hurricane was located near latitude 10.6 North, longitude 53.9 West with a westward motion at about 33 kilometers per hour (km/h) and a continued rapid westward to west-northwest movement is forecast for the next several days.

NHC forecasters expect Beryl’s center to move across the Windward Islands on early Monday and across the southeastern Caribbean Sea on Monday evening and Tuesday.

A hurricane warning is in effect for Barbados and hurricane watches have been issued for St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada. In addition, tropical storm warnings have been issued for Martinique, Dominica, and Tobago.
