Noboa allocates 100 million dollars to health care in Ecuador

Quito, Jun 29 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa ordered the urgent allocation of over 100 million dollars to pay providers and medical care.

Noboa’s announcement took place after complaints of lack of attention in several cities nationwide, due to the State’s delays to pay healthcare centers.

With those resources, the Ministry of Public Health will guarantee the continuity of treatment to patients with catastrophic and rare diseases in its facilities across the country, the Presidency pointed out on a press release.

On Thursday, the National Assembly (Parliament) approved a resolution in which it demanded that the National Government prioritize the allocation of resources to oncological care.

With 101 affirmative votes, the document drew special attention on the care provided to patients referred to the hospitals of the Society for the Fight Against Cancer of Ecuador (SOLCA), as well as to dialysis services and other healthcare service providers.

Legislators further urged the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) to fulfill its payment obligations to SOLCA, dialysis centers and other healthcare service providers, in order to ensure the availability of the necessary supplies and medicines.

The resolution also ordered the Right to Work and Right to Health commissions to conduct an effective follow-up to ensure compliance with what was approved at the Plenary of the Assembly.
