Coups d’état violate popular sovereignty of nations, Díaz-Canel says

Havana, Jun 29 (Prensa Latina) Fifteen years after the coup d'état against then legitimate President of Honduras Manuel Zelaya, we reiterate the condemnation of this practice that violates the popular sovereignty of nations, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said.

On a message on his X profile on Friday, the head of State noted that that the Honduran people and government can continue to count on Cuba’s brotherhood and solidarity.

During the early hours of June 28, 2009, soldiers broke into the house of Honduran President José Manuel Zelaya and took him to Costa Rica, perpetrating a coup orchestrated by Washington and the oligarchy of that nation.

The international community unanimously condemned the breakdown of constitutional order in Honduras and no government in the world recognized the coup junta.
