Ecuador will promote the use of natural gas in the midst of crisis

Quito, Jun 28 (Prensa Latina) The Minister in charge of Energy and Mines of Ecuador, Roberto Luque, explained that the Government will promote the use of natural gas as an alternative to the energy crisis that the country is experiencing today.

In declarations to the digital portal Primicias, Luque explained that they will also accelerate massive imports of natural gas and will expand local production.

According to Luque, there are already companies carrying out studies and buying land to build facilities to produce gas for different industries such as mining and, above all, the electricity sector.

Ecuador spends millions on buying diesel to burn it and generate energy. This is expensive and polluting, the official warned from his social network X.

The Executive here also seeks to contract barges and electricity engines for about 500 million dollars.

This Tuesday, the Electrical Corporation of Ecuador (Celec) launched tenders to contract new additional electricity generation, through barges, to be installed between September 2024 and February 2025.

According to Celec, this type of floating solutions is expected to contract about 110 megawatts.
