China announces measures to strengthen cooperation in Global South

Beijing, Jun 28 (Prensa Latina) Chinese President Xi Jinping announced new measures aimed at strengthening cooperation in the Global South and promoting a new world architecture during the Conference for the 70th anniversary of China's Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence

The president assured that in the next five years China will create the Center for Global South Studies, will grant a total of more than 100,000 scholarships for education and training, and will launch the Young Leaders of the Global South Program, in addition to donating 10 million dollars to support agriculture in these nations, thus renewing the South-South and Tripartite Cooperation Fund in the International Fund for Agricultural Development (TCF).

“China will also continue to take advantage of the United Nations Peace and Development Fund as well as the South-South cooperation mechanism on climate change,” said the president, who stressed the importance of establishing a tripartite cooperation demonstration center, to implement global development initiatives and thus support the economic development of countries in the Global South.

Additionally, the president expressed willingness to negotiate free trade agreements with more countries in the Global South and continue supporting the World Trade Organization’s Aid for Trade initiative, noting that China’s cumulative imports from the developing countries will exceed eight trillion dollars by 2030.

During his speech, the President of China highlighted the growing and crucial role of the Global South in human progress and development and urged countries around the world to adopt a more open and inclusive attitude to promote the construction of a community with a shared future for humanity.

“We must work together as a stabilizing force to maintain peace, promote the peaceful resolution of differences and controversies between countries, and participate constructively in the political resolution of burning international and regional issues,” he stated, calling for revitalizing South-South cooperation and North-South dialogue, deepening cooperation and promoting a more balanced and effective global governance structure.

The Five Principles form the basis of China’s foreign policy are: mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-aggression, non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, equality and benefit to all parties, and peaceful coexistence.
