WHO succeeds in evacuating children with cancer from Gaza

Geneva, Jun 27 (Prensa Latina) A score of children suffering from cancer managed to leave the Gaza Strip on Thursday through the Kerem Shalom crossing in an operation coordinated by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The hospital of the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital in Gaza City, the only oncology hospital in the territory, ceased operating due to lack of fuel at the onset of November, 2023 with some 10,000 patients unable to receive treatment. Prior to last May, most patient evacuations were done through the Rafah crossing, bordering Egypt, but Israel closed it when it took control, so this evacuation was done through the Kerem Shalom crossing, to be transferred to Egyptian territory.

The WHO estimates that over 10,000 sick and wounded people need treatment outside the Strip and calls for the urgent establishment of medical corridors.

At least 47 Gazans have been killed in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health due to Israeli attacks in the center and north.

Gazan authorities have reported over 37,700 deaths, in addition to over 520 Palestinians slaughtered in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since October 7, in operations by Israeli forces or in attacks perpetrated by settlers.
