Official sources indicated that the signing of this and other measures will take place during the meeting of the Sustainable Social Economic Development Council in Brasilia.
The bill was approved on June 12TH and establishes guidelines to be followed by the bodies of the National Environment System (SISNAMA) to reduce the environmental, social and economic impacts of climate change; It also complements the rules established by the National Policy on Climate Change.
The initiative may be financed by the National Fund for Climate Change and must give priority to the most vulnerable populations, sectors and regions exposed to climate risks, as well as ethnic, racial, gender, age and disability criteria considered in the development and implementation of the measures.
“Protecting the environment is saving lives, it is guaranteeing a good life for riverside residents, small merchants, inhabitants of the peripheries, traditional communities and people who live in risk areas,” Minister of Environment and Climate Change Marina Silva stated recently.
“Unfortunately, she recalled, there are still those who doubt the relationship between man’s action and nature’s reaction,” she said, and added, “Under the guidance of President Lula, the issue of climate change has been strengthened and addressed by all sectors and areas of the Government in a transversal manner, in dialogue with the entire society.”
