The organization’s Undersecretary-General for Arab Affairs and Occupied Territories, Saeed Abu Ali, said in an official statement that addressing the Gaza tragedy and preventing its repetition requires a radical solution to the causes of its beginning.
During a meeting with Palestinian authorities and Arab activists, the undersecretary demanded the creation of an independent and viable Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and stressed that “A ceasefire is an imperative need to save hundreds of thousands of people from death by starvation or bombing.”
For this reason, Saeed Abu Ali called on the international community to put pressure on Israel to force it to abandon its war campaign, which in that coastal enclave alone has caused almost 38,000 deaths since October last. “It is mandatory to obey international law or otherwise be accountable for violations of the laws,” he noted.
Abu Ali also demanded an increase in the volume of humanitarian aid entering the Strip to mitigate the humanitarian crisis there, and the opening of all border crossings connecting the region.
Both the Arab League and the Arab Parliament condemned the Israeli aggression and demanded its end on several occasions.
