Slovak president denies plans to send soldiers to Ukraine

Bratislava, Jun 26 (Prensa Latina) Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini on Wednesday rejected the possible deployment of soldiers from his country in Ukraine.

In statements to reporters in Prague at the conclusion of talks with his Czech counterpart, Petr Pavel, he noted that Slovakia will not send a single soldier to Kiev in the event of plans to deploy NATO troops there.

The former chairman of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Military Committee (2015-2018) added that if it would come to the case of contacting the Ukrainian military, it would be done only on the Slovak territory.

However, he noted that his government would not block any decision to be taken at the meeting of the war alliance in Washington next month.

Slovakia thus joins other NATO members who refused to deploy troops in Ukraine.

In late February, French President Emmanuel Macron said that he had discussed with his counterparts from some alliance member countries, including Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland and the United Kingdom, the possible dispatch of military personnel to Kiev, but no consensus was reached.
