The president of the Kenya Medical Association, Simon Kigondu, confirmed the death toll even though, he said, the number was not yet final.
Meanwhile, the country dawned on Wednesday in a tense calm, following the storming of the parliament building and vandalism in Nairobi and other cities.
Kenyan President William Ruto condemned the violence during the protests and lamented the loss of lives and the injuries suffered. He offered his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.
Ruto also urged restraint to restore order and provide space for dialogue but said he would use all means at his disposal to restore calm to the country.
However, the leader of the opposition coalition “Azimio the Umoja”, who was prime minister between 2008 and 2013, Raila Odinga, blamed the government for the violence and called for the withdrawal of the bill raising taxes to create conditions for a new dialogue.
