However, he revealed that Switzerland’s specific functions will be under the supervision of the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs to ensure that operational needs between Mexico and Ecuador continue within a framework of minimum cooperation.
Switzerland will mediate in accordance with the agreements signed in Bern this month and will thus seek to maintain a minimum level of relations between both countries amid the current tensions.
Mexico and Ecuador have been immersed in a diplomatic crisis since last April, when the Ecuadorian police broke into the Mexican Embassy in Quito to capture former President Jorge Glas, who had previously requested political asylum from the López Obrador Government.
