Las Vegas shooting: Five dead and girl seriously injured

tiroteo-eeuu
Washington, June 25 (Prensa Latina) Five dead and a 13-year-old girl seriously injured were the result of a shooting in the north of the American city of Las Vegas, Nevada, the press reported today.

The girl is in critical condition at University Medical Center in Las Vegas, police said, explaining that the suspect shooter was identified as Eric Adams, 47, but “he is no longer a threat to the community.”

Law enforcement officers responded last night around 10:00 p.m. to an emergency call at an apartment in the city where they found two injured women who were later declared dead by medical personnel. The victims were estimated to be between 40 and 50 years old, the report noted.

Two other women and a man were later found dead from gunshot wounds in an apartment near the scene of the initial incident. The causes of this tragedy are unknown.

Coincidentally, this new event emerged on the same day that the surgeon general of the United States, Vivek Murthy, declared that gun violence is a public health crisis in the nation.

Murthy warned that gun violence represents a “serious threat to the health and well-being of our country,” which not only takes a serious physical toll, but also a mental one.

It is the first time that the government’s main public health agency focuses on weapons, according to local media.

“Unfortunately, the problem has continued to grow,” Murthy added, citing a statistic that 54 percent of adults in the United States say they or a family member have experienced a firearm-related incident.

Perhaps most jarring of all is the effect of gun violence on children: As of 2020, it has been the number one cause of death among children and teens, surpassing car accidents, drug overdoses or cancer, he added.
