Bolivia’s presence in the Bioceanic Corridor gains support

La Paz, Jun 25 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia's presence in the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor, which will link the Atlantic and Pacific oceans by road, was backed on Monday by participants in an international meeting on the subject, held in Paraguay.

Authorities from neighboring countries reiterated this viewpoint during the 5th Forum of Sub-national Territories for the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor, Paraguay 2024.

That was the position of Chilean Senator Jorge Soria, who is considered the main promoter and pioneer of the creation of this integrationist route, who more than 40 years ago stated that ‘Bolivia must be considered so that the project passes through the country.’

In the same vein, his son and current mayor of Iquique, Mauricio Soria, described the project as a ‘dream that is already a reality.’

He added that ‘southern Bolivia is also part of the project.

Although some time ago we were somewhat distant (…) we congratulate the executive of Development (of Villa Montes, Tarija, Karen Sanchez,) to take this project with the momentum that is needed,’ he said.

Soria added that this way, the importance of the Corridor from Hito 60, passing through Uyuni, Tupiza (Potosí), Tarija and Villa Montes, until it reaches Paraguay, was retaken.’

Late in May, at the Seminar on Tourism and Trade Opportunities in a Context of Integration and Cooperation, held in Iquique, authorities and organizations signed a document described as ‘very important’ for the aspirations of Chaco and Bolivia.

The seventh item of the document states that ‘as a result of this meeting in Iquique and the previous work done from Villa Montes to Paraguay, Bolivia must join the Bi-Oceanic Corridor (…)’

The event was attended by representatives from Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile, who signed the manifesto.

The 5th Forum of Subnational Territories for the Capricornio Bioceanic Corridor was held from June 19 to 21 in the city of Filadelfia, in the Paraguayan Chaco.

The meeting was attended by 700 participants from Chile, Peru, Argentina, Brazil and Bolivia.

Authorities and business people from Potosí, Santa Cruz, Tarija, Villa Montes and Yacuiba also attended the meeting on behalf of Bolivia.

During the closing ceremony on Friday, the Development Executive of Villa Montes expressed her optimism that the country will be included in the Capricornio Bi-Oceanic Corridor, which is promoted by national and sub-national governments of Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Paraguay.
