Cuban residents in Panama demand island’s removal from US list

Panama, Jun 24 (Prensa Latina) The José Martí Association of Cuban Residents in Panamá (AMCRP) demanded the Government of the United States remove the Caribbean island from an arbitrary list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

In a statement circulating on social media, the group described that action as unjust, groundless and illegitimate, in addition to the fact that it not only ignores Cuba’s record in the fight against terrorism, but is also an attempt at justifying coercive policies that seriously affect the Cuban population.

“Cuba has consistently demonstrated its commitment to peace and international cooperation. Over the years, it has offered medical assistance, educational support and collaboration in various fields to multiple countries around the world, always promoting solidarity and friendship among peoples,” the text states.

In the opinion of the AMCRP, Cuba’s inclusion in that spurious list is a political measure that seeks to justify the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than six decades.

The document adds that the blockade, constantly condemned at the United Nations General Assembly, is a flagrant violation of the Cuban people’s human rights and an obstacle to the economic and social development of the country.

In this regard, the group urged the international community, governments, organizations and people of good will to keep their voices united against Washington’s hostile policy, which is essential to allow Cuba to develop its potential fully and improve the living conditions of its population.
