Cuban prime minister assesses socioeconomic development in Cienfuegos

Cienfuegos, Cuba, Jun 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero visited production centers in this central province on Friday to assess the region’s socioeconomic development.

Marrero began his tour at El Porvenir covered tobacco farm, in Cumanayagua municipality, according to the official X account of the Cuban Government.

The head of Government learned about the work experiences of Arcides Hernández, who is the largest producer of covered tobacco in the province, with 9.6 tons in 2023.

Hernández has diversified his products, promoted the use of renewable energy, built a children’s house with capacity for 25 children, and continues to expand his horizons for export.

Regarding the the children’s house, the prime minister highlighted how innovative this experience is, since it is about bringing teaching, with the same professionalism, to all communities.

The prime minister also visited the Cumanayagua maternity home, currently immersed in an investment process to enlarge the center, which has a capacity for 18 pregnant women.

Marrero also visited the nursing home in the southwest of the province of Cienfuegos, where he talked to elderly people.

Starting on Thursday in Cienfuegos, several work teams of the Cuban Government are assessing the main economic and social programs on the territory.

According to the local 5 de Septiembre newspaper, the objective of these tours is to follow up on the indications from previous visits, meet with local people and help solve problems.

On Thursday morning, part of the government delegation traveled to Santa Isabel de las Lajas municipality to meet with citizens and learn about their main dissatisfaction, among which the cash deficit in ATMs and the high prices of the products from private businesses stood out.
