Elizabeth Vela, a tourism adviser for Asia, told Prensa Latina that these measures add up to other incentives Cuba has applied, including visa exemption for Chinese citizens with ordinary passports.
“To achieve the Welcome Chinese Certification granted by China’s Tourism Academy, we promote charter flights, work on improving Internet and WIFI infrastructure, use popular applications, such as Weibo, WeChat, Mafengwo, Ctrip or Douyin, in the country, and create payment facilities through QR codes,” Vela said.
The tourism adviser stated that other measures aim to improve the UnionPay system and set up a 24-hour call center.
She also highlighted China’s status as guest of honor at the 43rd edition of the International Tourism Fair, FITCuba 2025, which will be held in Havana.
