Voz de Colombia weekly greets Prensa Latina’s 65th anniversary

Bogota, Jun 19 (Prensa Latina) The weekly Voz de Colombia on Tuesday praised the work done by Prensa Latina (PL) News Agency during its 65 years of service to journalism, Cuba and in the defense of the rights of the people.

In an extensive article, the Colombian weekly recalled that it was Cuba’s response to disinformation work of big news agencies since the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, and the opportunity for its leaders to communicate to the world the radical change Cuba was undergoing.

The weekly also highlighted the words of distinguished intellectuals about PL´s work and particularly evoked those renowned Argentinean journalist and writer Stella Calloni, who described PL as an example of journalistic ethics, because it respects the right of the people to receive truthful information, in a world where hegemonic power is preponderant and sows lies.

The text, entitled Prensa Latina is the Revolution, also recalled Fidel Castro when he defined PL as an initiative that remained faithful to the defense of the truth, especially the reality that refers to the work of the Cuban revolution.

The article, signed by journalist Alberto Azevedo, also quoted the American historian Renata Keller, who pointed out that ‘Prensa Latina survived, expanded and even flourished’.

He reviewed the American’s conclusions when she stated that its founders created an alternative source of news and information for Cuba, Latin America and the rest of the world, and achieved it, demonstrating the capacity to resist numerous attacks, which in turn was described as impressive and unprecedented.

The Prensa Latina news agency was founded on June 16, 1959 by Argentinean journalist Jorge Ricardo Masetti and Ernesto Che Guevara.
