According to a warning issued by Mexico’s National Meteorological Service (SMN), the center of the phenomenon was located 260 kilometers west of Celestún, in the state of Yucatán, and 575 kilometers east-southeast of La Pesca, in Tamaulipas.

The system, with a minimum central pressure estimated at 999 hpa, was moving northward at nine kilometers per hour (km/h), with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h and gusts of up to 85.

Specialists warned that the wide circulation will produce heavy rains in the states of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Puebla, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo; very heavy rains in Tabasco, San Luis Potosi and Hidalgo, as well as heavy rains in Nuevo Leon.

The experts called on the population in general to take extreme precautions in the areas of the aforementioned states due to rains, winds and waves (including maritime navigation) and to heed the recommendations issued by local authorities from the National Civil Protection System in each institution.

If it becomes a tropical storm, the hurricane would be named Alberto, according to the list provided by the World Meteorological Organization, the same used in the past 2018 seasons, a period in the Atlantic and the Caribbean, which extends until November 30, will be very active.
