China will donate modern equipment to Honduras to detect dengue fever

Tegucigalpa, Jun 18 (Prensa Latina) China will donate modern equipment to Honduras for the early detection and protection against dengue fever, including lamps and rapid diagnostic kits to combat the crisis that the country is facing due to the disease.

The donation of some 80 million lempiras (3,233,000 US dollars) was announced at a recent meeting between President Xiomara Castro and the Vice President of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and President of the GX Foundation, Leung Chun.

According to local media, after the meeting, Foreign Minister Enrique Reina praised the importance of the meeting and assured that they will present a work plan to address fundamental issues such as health and education in a more exhaustive way.

Chun, in turn, said he was happy to return to Honduras three months after his last visit, this time with a 28-strong team and a large amount of supplies to fight the dengue epidemic.

The Honduran Ministry of Health declared a national health emergency several days ago after an increase in hospitalizations due to the dengue fever, which is caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
