Eleven military personnel and five workers from the Total Energy and Auster company arrived in the southern zone to remove the structures from the Maritime Transit Control and Surveillance Post Hito 1.
The Chilean Minister of Defense, Maya Fernandez, praised on Tuesday the speed with which Argentina proceeded to remove the panels.
“The protection of our borders, as the President of the Republic has said, is basic in our relation,” the minister said.
During the last few days, there were reactions of rejection after it was learned that the military base, opened by Argentina in April, occupied over three meters of the Region of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica.
“Borders are not something with which one can be ambiguous. It is a basic principle of respect between countries,” President Gabriel Boric referred on Monday.
The president raised the tone and demanded the immediate removal of the facilities built on his country’s territory.
“Here what we have to do is to respect the borders. That is what we are demanding with respect to our territory. As I have said, either they remove it or we remove it as soon as possible,” Boric asserted.
