Valued as a unique case in the central Cuban province of Villa Clara and rare in the nation, the child Karol Aguila returned Monday with her family to the village of Ranchuelo, after a successful recovery.
The doctor Abel Armenteros, in charge of the multidisciplinary team, revealed to the press that in the first examination an abnormal image was observed, as there was an upsurge in volume in the right kidney, which is why the radiologist was called in.
He stressed that finally, the presence of a large tumor was confirmed, occupying the upper and middle pole of the kidney, so the preparatory process began with a view to carrying out the operation.
The expert noted that a team was formed and proceeded to extract a renal tumor by opening the inferior vena cava and then saturation.
Dr. Armenteros indicated that the incision occupied about 10 cm in the inferior cava, while a specialist in angiology opened it to extract the tumor present and give way to the rest of the operative process.
“The tumor was removed via the abdominal route and the kidney was removed definitely, as only a third of the organ was free of the ailment. In this way, we fulfilled the initial plan, and we were attentive to possible complications, which fortunately did not occur,” he asserted.
The girl’s relatives thanked the professionalism of the medical, nursing and technical team for their commendable work in this risky surgery, which became another achievement of Cuban medicine.
