Chilean President completes European tour in France

Gabriel-Boric1-1-2
Paris, Jun 17 (Prensa Latina) Chilean President Gabriel Boric completed on Monday his second tour of Europe with a working visit to France, where he met with his counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, and participated in a meeting at UNESCO on education.

On a message posted on X, Boric noted that in his meeting with Macron they discussed trade relations, particularly in green energy such as lithium and green hydrogen, and also addressed issues such as the situation in Ukraine and Gaza.

Prior to the meeting with the French president, Boric was received at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) by the Director General, Audrey Azoulay.

There, he participated in the High Level Plenary on Sustainable Development Goal 4 on achieving education for all by 2030.

Education is not only a fundamental human right, it is a global public good that enables the exercise of other rights; hence, we must mobilize to ensure that every child, youth and adult has access to inclusive, equitable and quality education, the president said.

According to UNESCO, despite the fact that education has been declared a universal human prerrogative since 1948, 250 million children and young people around the world are still out of school.

In France, Boric completed a tour of Europe that began on June 9, and also included Germany, Sweden and Switzerland.

During a press briefing from Paris, Boric was questioned about the problem created by the installation of an Argentinian military base in Patagonia, which occupied part of Chilean territory.

“Borders are not something to be ambiguous about. It is a basic principle of respect between countries,” he said, and demanded that the neighboring country immediately remove the solar panels installed on the Chilean side.
