Sri Lankan media publishes NAM-G77’s statement in favor of Cuba

Colombo, Jun 16 (Prensa Latina) The Sri Lanka Guardian online newspaper on Sunday published a demand by the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the G77+China in rejection of the United States' policy against Cuba.

The newspaper, to which hundreds of writers worldwide collaborate, highlighted the statement of the two international organizations that demand Cuba’s removal from Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list.

In a joint statement, NAM and G77+China described Cuba’s designation as a terrorist country as an unfair and unfounded accusation whose pretext is to impose unilateral coercive measures against its people.

The two groups emphasize that this reinforces the economic, commercial, and financial blockade that the United States has maintained for more than 60 years against the Cuban people.

The statement urged the US Government to lift the economic blockade, which is the leading obstacle to the country’s development, and called for compliance with all 31 resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.

The two organizations reiterated the need to eliminate the imposition of laws and regulations with extraterritorial effects and coercive measures, including unilateral sanctions against developing countries.
