On his X profile, the head of the legislature, who is also the president of the Council of State of the Republic, highlighted Prensa Latina’s commitment to truth and objective journalism.
He acknowledged the media outlet’s loyalty to the mission assigned by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and Argentine-Cuban guerrilla fighter Ernesto Guevara, who were its main promoters.
Lazo pointed out that in fulfilling the founding mandate, Prensa Latina professionals have resolutely confronted “imperial media hegemony” with their work.
In this context, the news agency (based in Havana) fights battles against disinformation, amid media campaigns by communication monopolies, intelligence agencies and governments interested in silencing it, Prensa Latina President Luis Enrique González said on Friday.
Prensa Latina, which has correspondents in 35 countries, collaborators in dozens of nations and agreements with more than 100 international media, overcomes various obstacles daily, thanks to the creative intelligence of its professionals, González noted at the central event for the anniversary.
Among those challenges he mentioned the blockade that the United States has imposed on Cuba for more than six decades, which prevents access to financial mechanisms, technology and free employment.
