Georgetown, 16 Jun (Prensa Latina) Former Guyanese President Donald Ramotar on Sunday highlighted Prensa Latina's work during its 65 years of existence, wished the news agency a successful future, and expressed appreciation for its news services.

In a congratulatory message on the news agency’s 65th anniversary, Ramotar noted that the foundation of Prensa Latina was one of the most significant steps after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959. It helped to protect Cuba from attacks and the political-ideological war unleashed against it.

“Over the years, Prensa Latina has become the leading source of real information, genuine analysis, and news that fought against the power of the dominant media in our hemisphere. Prensa Latina stood up like a gladiator to defend the ideological struggle in our continent,” he affirmed.

Ramotar recalled that Latin American writers like Colombia’s Gabriel Garcia Marquez gave prestige to such an organization. He also considered the news agency a living legacy from its founders, Fidel Castro and Ernesto Che Guevara.

The former Guyanese president finally expressed his appreciation of the news agency’s workers for their service to the region and the world, and wished them continued success in “another 65 years of struggle for truth, justice, and moderation.”
