Israel accused of targeting Palestinian journalists

Ramallah, Jun 15 (Prensa Latina) Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor accused on Saturday Israel of turning Palestinian journalists into one of its main targets during the ongoing aggression toward the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, the non-governmental organization affirmed that the country is responsible for serious crimes and violations against journalists in Gaza.

According to official sources, some 150 journalists and media workers have lost their lives there since the onset of the current escalation of violence on October 7, 2023.

Israeli army systematically violates its obligations to protect journalists and not obstruct their work, the organization underscored.

In that regard, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor denounced that Palestinian reporters are subject to premeditated assassinations, direct attacks, arbitrary arrests and forced disappearances.

Dozens more were injured in various air and artillery attacks or by direct gunfire from soldiers, the organization highlighted.

Since the start of its operations, the Israeli armed forces targeted dozens of headquarters of syndicate institutions, including the venues of Al Jazeera, Palestine TV, the Maan news agency, as well as Al Quds and Al Ayyam newspapers.

In May, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate affirmed that journalists in Gaza carry out their work and expose Israeli crimes to the world with great sacrifices.

Recently, the ¨United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization¨ awarded Palestinian journalists covering the conflict the Guillermo Cano Award in recognition of their work.
