Cuban Health Ministry congratulates Prensa Latina on 65th anniversary

Havana, Jun 15 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Public Health Ministry joined the congratulations coming from various latitudes and from organizations, institutions and personalities in Cuba on Prensa Latina’s 65th anniversary.

On his X profile, Minister Jose Angel Portal noted the creation of the Latin American News Agency in the first months after the triumph of the Revolution in January 1959.

We congratulate those who, with their work in this important media outlet, put their ideas at the service of the country, he noted.

Prensa Latina held the main event for its 65th anniversary (June 16, 1959) at the Casa de las Américas cultural institution on Friday, coinciding with the celebration of the 96th birthday of Ernesto Che Guevara, one of its main creators.

At the event, Prensa Latina President Luis Enrique González noted that that in these six decades of uninterrupted work, Prensa Latina has managed to consolidate itself as the main multimedia based in Cuba, with more than 350 daily dispatches, 18 own and third-party publications.

He pointed out that this medium is internationally recognized in the main press forums and currently leads the Voices of the Global South platform, as well as being part of the Board of Directors of the Belt and Road Initiative News Network.

The deputy director of the Ideological Department of the Communist Party of Cuba, Maryde Fernández, recalled the founding objectives of Prensa Latina, created in 1959 with the aim of entering information flows with a world vision different from those of the media monopolies.

At the commemorative event, Prensa Latina received a pen and a passport that belonged to its founding director, Jorge Ricardo Masetti, as a gift.

Prensa Latina, in turn, granted the Life Work Award for their outstanding career to 11 of its most dedicated members, while the Culture Union granted the Raúl Gómez García medal to workers from the news media.
