Upon welcoming the ship, which is visiting Havana until June 16, the diplomat noted that it is also an indication of the strong ties of collaboration in security matters in the Caribbean.
“We are at the forefront, together with Cuba, in the fight against international crime and drugs,” he stressed.
He recalled that the ship’s visit occurs in the context of the 80th year of uninterrupted diplomatic relations with the northern country and the 50th anniversary of ties of mutual cooperation.
The arrival of HMCS Margaret Brooke continues the visits received in 2016 and 2018 by the frigates HMCS Fredericton and HMCS Charlottetown, he noted.
The ship was welcomed by the head of the Naval Engineering Specialty of the Revolutionary War Navy of Cuba, Ship Captain Aldo Perera.
On the Canadian side, the ship’s commander, frigate captain Nicole Robichaud, presented her greetings.
The Canadian sailors will take part in events, including courtesy meetings with the head of the Revolutionary Navy and Havana Governor Yanet Hernandez.
