While the ruling party defends the idea of a more independent Public Ministry and the pressing need to put a “padlock” on the Constitution, in the words of the President of the Republic, to prevent future rulers from seeking to perpetuate themselves in power, the opposition criticizes the intentions of the Executive and considers that there are other priority issues.

In this regard, the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and the People’s Force (FP) agreed that a measure that would impose more taxes on workers is inappropriate.

The spokesperson for the PLD in the Senate, Yvan Lorenzo, asserted that the party would not accept the tax raise that would result from an eventual fiscal transformation.

Lorenzo advanced that the purple party is open to dialogue in any context, but disapproves of the idea of more taxes for the people.

Meanwhile, in the Chamber of Deputies, Tobias Crespo, spokesperson for the FP, said that before talking about a change to the Tax Code, the spending of government institutions should be evaluated.
