DPRK rejects human rights campaign against it

corea-bandera-1
Pyongyang, Jun 14 (Prensa Latina) The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Friday rejected the accusations made against it at the United Nations Security Council about its alleged human rights violations.

In a statement published by the state news agency KCNA, the deputy minister in charge of international organizations at the Foreign Ministry, Kim Son Gyong, affirmed that it is a “brutal and intriguing campaign” that takes advantage of South Korea’s assumption of the presidency of that body.

The official denounced the involvement of the United States in this campaign, which he described as another expression of the hostile policy against the DPRK and “a new attempt to tarnish the image of our dignified state” in view of the impossibility of overthrowing it by military means.

He added that using the UN and other international organizations to orchestrate such campaigns only brings them discredit, and assured that as far as the DPRK is concerned, its priority will remain to defend its citizens’ right to life against the threats and aggression by the US and its allies.

Two days ago, at the United Nations headquarters, the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter rejected a meeting convened within the Security Council to discuss the situation of human rights in the DPRK as an action outside the powers of that body.
