In the activity, the head of ANEC, Óscar Luis Hung, referred to the challenges assumed by that organization to fulfill its fundamental functions in pursuit of economic recovery after the effects of the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the tightening of the blockade imposed by the United States on the largest island of the Antilles.
He pointed out as an urgent priority the fight of economists against corruption, which constitutes the fundamental center of preventive and control actions, given the ethical and moral repercussions of these manifestations on society, reported the Cuban News Agency.
The meeting was also informed of the decision to postpone the IX Congress of the institution to next November with the purpose of reaching it in better conditions and with more clarity of the contents to be addressed, as a result of the debates in the balances at the bases.
For his part, Antonio Romero, specialist at the World Economy Research Center, announced the call for the XV International Meeting of Economists on Globalization and Development Problems, to be held in Havana in October, 2025.
At the event, Francisco (Paquito) Rodríguez, vice president of the Union of Journalists of Cuba, presented recognition from his organization to the ANEC.
Founded on June 14, 1979, ANEC is a non-government organization, with voluntary membership and self-financing that has contributed to enhancing the participation of its members in the economic and social development of the country.
The union carries out multiple actions for the sake of an efficient socialist economy, such as providing advice, training and economic, financial and accounting technical assistance to interested entities, and economic training courses.
