“We have made the decision to provide humanitarian support to Palestinian children who will travel with their families to Colombia for rehabilitation, and we are waiting for the support of the Military Hospital”, the deputy FM argued after a meeting, in which she participated as part of a delegation accompanying President Gustavo Petro on an official visit to Sweden.
The deputy FM, cited by Blu Radio, added that although there is still no exact figure for the number of minors who could travel with their relatives, the Government is already appealing for international cooperation in the search for resources to attend to this population.
In May, Gustavo Petro assured that his country was ready to implement a service to treat Palestinian children injured by the Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip.
Likewise, just a few days ago, Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo confirmed that in the coming weeks, his country would pursue a humanitarian assistance programme to benefit mainly children and women who are victims of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Colombia, in retaliation for the bombing of civilians in Gaza, broke off relations with Israel, banned coal exports to that country, and supported South Africa in its lawsuit against the Israeli Government before the International Court of Justice for crimes against humanity.
