This was confirmed here by a Foreign Ministry spokesman, who also reiterated his government’s position on the need to put an end to all unilateral coercive measures.
Laos considers that an embargo, with its extraterritorial implications and in particular unilateral coercive measures, not only hinders the socio-economic development of a nation on which the blockade is imposed but also contravenes the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Likewise, the spokesman added that these coercive measures violate international law and the sovereign equality of States, as well as the freedom of international trade and navigation, causing serious negative consequences on innocent people and hindering the well-being of many developing countries.
In this regard, he stressed in brief statements made the day before, “the Lao People’s Democratic Republic joins the global call to lift the economic embargo against Cuba and remove it from the list of “state sponsors of terrorism”, as well as to end all unilateral coercive measures.”
