Quito, Jun 12 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador's Economy Minister Juan Carlos Vega on Wednesday reaffirmed the decision made to eliminate fuel subsidies will not be reversed, in the midst of demonstrations against the measure.

In statements to the national channel Teleamazonas, Vega gave an estimate of what would be the new cost of fuels.

According to the Ecuadorian minister, the current price of Extra gasoline is US$ 2.47 per gallon and the expected increase without subsidy is 0.25 cents per gallon.

Meanwhile, in the case of Ecopaís gasoline, which is also currently US$2.47, the rise would be close to 0.30 cents’, Vega detailed. However, although the scheme is ready, the Executive has not announced when the measure will be implemented.

We are very close to making the decision.

On Wednesday, social and union organizations called to take to the streets in rejection of the President Daniel Noboa’s decision to eliminate fuel subsidies.
